Get Your Children Cooking As Early as Possible

When your children are young, it is a good idea to get them involved in the kitchen. Very young children will love to help you in the kitchen. Not only do they get to spend time with you in a constructive way, but they also have the satisfaction of producing a delicious meal or food at the end of it.

With smaller children, you must keep an eye on the safety aspects of everything that you do. They could help sitting at the kitchen table, or somewhere away from the dangers of the kitchen such as knives and hot stoves. Smaller children can stir things and help you count the eggs etc.

If you are prepared and relaxed, then it will go very well. You know that there will be a lot of mess and not much of the mixture may actually end up as cookies, but the important thing is that everyone has fun. Try not to get too stressed. Everything will take much longer than it should and the ingredients may not be in the right proportions but never mind. The important thing is not to tell the children off for making a mess or not doing things right.

As they get older, you can graduate to cooking in the kitchen. Have a special recipe that is theirs and get them to cook it. Then get them to make modifications to it like adding raisins, or different chocolate chips. There is nothing better than the terrific sense of achievement by eating something that has been cooked at home. It is much healthier too because you know exactly what has gone into the food and there are no nasty surprises.

By teaching your children to cook you are teaching them a valuable skill and at the same time you're spending quality time with them. They will discover where the different foods come from and how they are put together. They will also begin to appreciate the hard work that you do when you put together a meal in front of them.

Children who cook at home are more likely to be more adventurous in what they will eat. They are not afraid to try something new. They are more healthy because while they are learning to cook, they can learn about calories and vitamins and minerals. They are also much more self reliant. When they are older, they will not be frustrated by relying on someone else to put food in front of them. And who knows? It may turn into a real vocation for them!
